Past Simple e Past Continuous
Il Past Simple e il Past Continuous sono tempi verbali cruciali per parlare di eventi passati in inglese.
Il Past Simple si usa per azioni iniziate e finite nel passato. La sua struttura è:
- Affermativa:
- Verbi regolari: soggetto + forma base + -ed
- Verbi irregolari: soggetto + forma irregolare
- Negativa: soggetto + didn't + forma base
- Interrogativa: Did + soggetto + forma base
Example: We visited Paris last summer. (Affermativa) Example: They didn't go to the party. (Negativa) Example: Did you see the movie? (Interrogativa)
Il Past Continuous si usa per azioni passate avvenute in un determinato momento o per un'azione interrotta da un'altra (espressa in Past Simple). La sua struttura è:
- Affermativa: soggetto + was/were + verbo -ing
- Negativa: soggetto + wasn't/weren't + verbo -ing
- Interrogativa: Was/Were + soggetto + verbo -ing
Example: I was reading when the phone rang. (Azione interrotta) Example: They weren't sleeping at midnight. (Negativa) Example: Were you studying all night? (Interrogativa)
Highlight: Le risposte alle domande in Past Simple usano "Yes/No" + soggetto + did/didn't, mentre per il Past Continuous si usa "Yes/No" + was/were/wasn't/weren't.
